As a fan of webcomics, I have found much joy in the discovery of the very intellectually stimulating and laugh-inducing comics of XKCD (the name alone being a literary joke). In the most recent comic, the author has been kind enough to point out the simplicity that comes with committing piracy of art online. Again, this is one of the Orwellian “double-think” acts in that I find the thought of it relieving despite the fact that I am somewhat on the fence about the actual deed. (I like people who make the work to get their fair share of the money, but am against the over-zealous protection of such media. It’s art, and once it’s out in the world, allow people to share it, so long as you retain ownership over it).
As to an explanation of the title of this post, it is a literary reference to Mattias Elftorp’s “Piracy is Liberation” graphic novel.
