While I have never been a fan of animes, every now and then my friends forcefully “suggest” to me to watch one that they think I will enjoy. As of late, their choice of poison has been “Code Geass”.
I write saying to you that I know next to nothing about the show due to the fact that I am still in the middle of the first episode–what can I say, I don’t find them fascinating. However, what I do know bout the show is somewhat interesting due to the dystopian nature of it. All of what I do know, and what I will be typing about here, is that which I have come to understand in the first episode.
Just like any other dystopian, there is a large totalitarian power, Britannia, and a small group of people (Japan) who do not wish to submit to the governing state. What is clearly apparent is that the people of the former Japan, now known as Area 11, are very nationalistic. The denizens of Britannia go so far as to wipe away the humanity of the Japanese by labeling not by their names, not even as people, but rather completely as a single number: Eleven. The Elevens, in being subjected to this title, are adamantly against the Britannian ruling power, and from what I can muster, I predict that they will attempt to overthrow it, and as with any good dystopian, they will fail.
If you happen to have any insight or information about Code Geass, please leave a comment. I will certainly add to this post as I watch the show, but where’s the fun in talking to myself? Isn’t that right, Ryan? Oh, most certainly.
