The long respite that this site has taken is due to a multitude of reasons ranging from a change of majors (Comparative Literature to Philosophy with a focus in nihilism), the reading of various works, many of which will be touched upon or completely analyzed in later posts, and the writing of an essay which was for a class, but will be rewritten and formatted for publication. “Piracy is Liberation” Really is True
As a fan of webcomics, I have found much joy in the discovery of the very intellectually stimulating and laugh-inducing comics of XKCD (the name alone being a literary joke). In the most recent comic, (more…)
Skype Used by Big Brother (The Dark Humor of Skype Pt II)
It has come to my attention that Chinese officials have been listening in and keeping a record of key phrases using the Skype program. I for one do not blame the Skype company for this in one bit. The company admits to (more…)
Sado-Masochism and Reading: A Match Made In Hell (Pt II)
In a previous post I questioned whether reading the novel Twilight by Stephanie Meyer would corrupt the act of reading for me. After finishing the first book, I have to say that I was a bit over the top in my presumption.
First of all, I need to look at the target audience of the book: teenage girls. The last time I checked, I (more…)
Blindness, or What Is the Nature of Man?
In America on Friday, October 3rd, a new movie will be coming out entitled Blindness. It seems to be that this movie is very much to be made in the very ilk of Cuaron’s Children of Men in that there is an inexplicable global epidemic that causes panic, spouts of anarchy and hosts my favorite actress, Julianne Moore. Sadly, this film doesn’t appear to have any press releases, however, just like Babylon A.D., perhaps I can get in early through (more…)
Code Geass: A Dystopian Anime
While I have never been a fan of animes, every now and then my friends forcefully “suggest” to me to watch one that they think I will enjoy. As of late, their choice of poison has been “Code Geass”. (more…)
Watch Yourself
The best part about having more female friends than male ones is that you’re always going to be criticized about what you’re wearing if it’s not of the newest fad. To respond to this, I have been searching for the one shirt that would truly stand out in a crowd, the one article of clothing that I could have pride in wearing not only for that oh so precious color scheme but also the theme of (more…)
A Dollar Divided
With the way the world works, it is hard to live in America and not hear a word about the $700,000,000,000 (love those zeros) Wall-Street bail out plan. While most people seem to be worried about the repercussions of bailing out the banks, my eyes have been unwaveringly focused on the value of the USD–the dollar. (more…)
Look Right
We’re growing, folks! Orwellian Pigs now has an “About the Author” page, and money is about to be plopped down to give this place a bigger feel. We’re talking about cleaner graphics, a better website (OrwellianPigs.com sounds nice, if I do say so myself) and more surprises I’m keeping secret.
For now though, look to your right, and enjoy the page dedicated to giving you a direct link to me.
Sado-Masochism and Reading: A Match Made in Hell?
Writer’s Note: I am terribly sorry for the long delay in updating Orwellian Pigs. Rearranging a work schedule, changing countries, twice, changing majors and starting the writing of a novel has distracted me.
The word dystopia is most often used to connote a certain place that is in a state of disarray. Whether it is through the means of a government controlling it’s people, the complete lack of a government leading to people falling towards their nature of being corrupt and thus vying for power and controlling other people or even dark futures in which people are consumed by their technological advancements. Something that I have always been interested in, though, are personal dystopias. Love, for example, is meant to be a grand, wonderful abstraction, and yet people struggle with it day in and day out. That which is meant to be harmonious is consumed by social definitions, personal demons, fighting emotions and internal struggles. That which was pure is (more…)
